The Area Model of Multiplication Across the Mathematics Curriculum in Grades 2-12
The Area Model of Multiplication establishes the groundwork for helping visual and kinesthetic learners in the conceptual understanding of multiplying, factoring, and dividing polynomials and also connects the arithmetic of whole numbers to algebra and algebraic thinking. We will investigate several area model activities on this concept including the use of algebra tiles and generic rectangles.
